Norton occurs as British motorcycle marque from Birmingham and founded in 1898. By 1913 it experienced begun manufacturing bike. This began an extended series of production & racing wins.
It were one of a dandy list of the British bike industry, producing machines which for decades dominated racing. A original company was formed by James Norton in Wolverhampton in 1898. A Isle of Man Senior TT, a virtually all prestigious of cases, was won by Nortons 10 days between the wars and so annually from either 1947 to 1954.
Post war, a Norton br& was illustrious for a quality of the project and treating of their bike frames, particularly the Norton Featherbed frame. Such and so that Cafe racers would use this frame by having an engine from either a second manufacturer to produce a intercrossed machine by having the right of each worlds. A best known one were Tritons - Triumph twwithin engines in the Norton frame.
Within 1960, Norton was sold to Associated Motorcycles (AMC), who too owned a brands AJS, Matchless, and Villiers. A Wolverhampton mill was closed & production was moved to AMC's Woolwich factory in Southeast London.
Per late 1960s competition from either Japan experienced caused the whole British bike industry into a precipitous decline. Around 1969 a Commando was introduced, its revolutionary isolastic frame and right motor processed it competitory by having Japanese superbikes of the era. Despite different variations & heavy sales, a company declined around the Sixties & went into liquidation in 1974, but around 1973 Norton wwhen reformed per British government as Norton-Villiers-Triumph (NVT), ingesting a Triumph brand from either BSA. Due to the labor dispute, NVT went into receivership around 1974, ending production of the original Norton Motorycles. A title was relaunched inside an challenging shell in Lichfield in 1988.
